Activities of the committee
What are emeriti faculty doing?
Most emeriti faculty members expressed their appreciation for and satisfaction with their careers at BYU.
Most are happy in retirement with more time for other important challenges and meaningful activities involving their families, church service, travel, relaxation, sports, exercising, etc.
Some continue to write, research, attend seminars, teach, attend departmental seminars, and retain membership in professional associations.
Most prefer to spend most of their time in non-professional activities.
An overwhelming majority of retirees showed interest in keeping informed of developments, research, changes and progress, particularly within their departments, but also within the School of Education.
Many enjoy the occasional contact with their former colleagues by way of dinners, picnics, and award assemblies, or presentations. The School of Education Spring Picnic has become one means of continuing association among retirees and current faculty members.
The Emeriti Committee plans to continue to meet as retirees at least one half hour prior to the regular faculty Spring Picnic for socializing and for meeting with the Dean to be informed of current happenings in the School.
