McKay School of Education > A.R.T.S. > Research > Research Overview

In addition to assessing and evaluating all programs on an ongoing basis, the BYU A.R.T.S. Partnership is dedicated to furthering current research on the value and outcomes of elementary arts education in dance, music, media, theatre and visual arts. Research will focus on the impact of arts education including affective and cognitive impact, the impact of using the arts on achievement in other academic disciplines, and the impact of integrating the arts with various academic disciplines. A mentored research grant to hire a BYU student researcher is available to BYU faculty and qualified K-6 teachers.
Key to this research is the ongoing development of professional development curricula, teacher support materials including lesson plans, mapping and assessment tools, advocacy tools, web-based resources for learning and collaboration, and media-based instruction for teachers, parents and children.
