The BYU Special Education Program has given me new opportunities in my career. I appreciate the wonderful instruction and guidance given me from the professors and teachers who taught me at BYU. I've met many wonderful people and made many new friends who have taught and mentored me through this learning process. I'm now a special education teacher working with elementary school children who struggle with learning and I've found
it truly rewarding.

The SpEd program at BYU was very thorough in preparing me to create a positive and organized learning environment for my students. I really appreciated the diversity of classes we took, which broadened the abilities I use to teach today. The summer practicum, student teaching, and a great support of mentors really helped me learn the skills I need to help my students in my classroom.

As a teacher of regular education, I felt limited in my abilities to break apart the necessary elements for reading success. BYU SPED invested a great deal of time developing my skills to accurately diagnose reading difficulties and then execute a congruent, cohesive plan of action for students that struggle with reading. I now confidently work to make a more literate society. Math instruction was also addressed and I was given tools to task analyze the scope and sequence needed to help a child truly understand number sense for the more complicated tasks of Algebra, Geometry, Probability and Time. In comparison to my first experience at BYU, which was outstanding, I would rate this program as superior.
