The Educational Growth and Unity Association began as a committee of three individuals dedicated to expanding the horizons of the School of Education. It since has blossomed into a full-fledged organization run completely by student educators.
We aspire to become the active voice of all education majors, allowing students to voice their concerns and to help determine the future direction of the school. Through our Public Relations Committee, we are establishing relationships with MSE Faculty Committees, BYU Multicultural Clubs, Multicultural Student Services, BYU Advisement Centers, and the Dean of the McKay School of Education.
Our vision is for the EGUA is to be the center of activity for education majors, serving to assist students at all phases of their education. We will direct them towards enriching activities that will help prepare them for the field or to advance their career once they are already in the schools. When students or alumni want to get involved, they will come to our association to learn about service projects, resume building opportunities, volunteer efforts, enriching experiences, and employment possibilities.
Since the core of our association is an appreciation and understanding of human diversity, we will aptly serve as a place where all students can feel like they belong. Through our efforts, students will no longer feel an aversion to our department for fear of being out of place. We will set the standard for the university as a whole, promoting service, encouraging expanded student supports, and fostering an environment of free discussion about the issues of the day.
We encourage all students to become involved in our association. Through volunteer work and participation in EGUA sponsored activities, you will find your horizons expanded. You will become an agent for change, moving the cause of education forward towards a better future. Together, we will build a better world where teachers are helping ALL students reach their potential.
