Admissions Information

Entrance
Requirements:
Submit a complete BYU application, official transcripts with acceptable undergraduate GPA, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores -  verbal, quantitative, analytical; three letters of recommendation; and a letter of intent.

Note: The written GRE must be taken several months in advance of the application deadline in order for the scores to reach the University by the admission deadlines. Students specializing in Second Language Acquisition must have advanced proficiency (as defined by the graduate committee of the language department in question) in their language focus.
Application
Deadlines:
For Fall or Summer entry, the admission deadline is February 1st for both U.S. and international students. Winter entry has been discontinued.
Ph.D. Residency
Requirements:
The Ph.D. program is designed for full-time study. Ph.D. students are required to complete at least 18 credit hours each year to remain enrolled in the program. Therefore, doctoral students should work no more than 20 hours per week while enrolled in the program. See the department enrollment and minimum progress policy.
