David Oman McKay was the first son born to David and Jeanette Evans McKay on Sept. 8, 1873. When David was seven years old he lost both of his older sisters within weeks of each other. Shortly, after losing his sisters, his father was called on a mission. David O. became the "man of the family," shouldering responsibility far beyond his years.
