David O. McKay Photo Album - Marriage to Emma Ray Riggs

This is a photo of David O. McKay and his wife Emma

The second year that David O. McKay attended the University of Utah he and his brother, Thomas E., rented a cottage on Second West Street from Emma Robbins Riggs. Mrs. Riggs' daughter, Emma Ray, was then eighteen. One day Mrs. Riggs and her daughter stood at the window watching the two McKay boys arrive home. Mrs. Riggs commented, "There are two young men who will make some lucky girls good husbands. See how considerate they are of their mother." Ray said, "I like the dark one." The dark one was David O.

David O. McKay and Emma Ray Riggs were the first couple married in the Salt Lake temple in the new century on 2 January 1901.
