President McKay took full advantage of modern transportation to meet with the Saints. During his administration, the membership of the Church almost tripled, and the number of stakes jumped from 191 to 537. A response that President McKay received in Auckland in 1955 was typical of the members of the Church when they met their prophet. "People kissed his hand, would look into his eyes and burst into tears. Their hearts shined through their eyes."
