NCATE Accreditation

NCATE Accreditation

The David O. McKay School of Education has been nationally accredited by the
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) for 13 continuous years.
The McKay School administration and staff express appreciation to their partners
in the arts and sciences and in the public schools, for collaborative efforts in preparing teachers, administrators, and educational specialists, thereby making NCATE accreditation attainable.

McKay School Administrators believe that NCATE Accreditation improves the McKay School by encouraging the measurement and reporting of performance. Thomas S. Monson has stated:

"When we deal in generalities, we shall never succeed.

When we deal in specifics, we shall rarely have a failure.

When performance is measured, performance improves.

When performance is measured and reported, the rate of performance accelerates.

-Thomas S. Monson-

NCATE is a professional accrediting organization for schools, colleges, and departments of education in the United States. NCATE evaluates six areas:

  1. Candidate Performance
  2. Assessment System and Unit Evaluation
  3. Field Experiences and Clinical Practice
  4. Diversity
  5. Faculty Qualifications, Performance, and Development
  6. Unit Governance and Resources

The next NCATE review for the McKay School of Education is scheduled for 2009.
