MSE’s Meet the Dean 2012 [VIDEO]
MSE students are invited to meet Dean Young this March 29
The Meet the Dean program, now in its sixth year, is an event designed to create dialogue between college deans, administration, and their students. McKay School students have the opportunity to meet Richard Young, the Dean of the McKay School of Education on March 29th at 11:00 am in room 185 MCKB.
Amber Steimle, executive director of the Meet the Dean program, described the event as a bridge-building opportunity. “Students sometimes feel like their Dean is this unapproachable figure who they’re never really going to meet,” Steimle said, “But it’s an important connection to make. Administration really wants to know their students; the Dean wants to know how to best serve them.”
Jordan Liau, Meet the Dean program director, agrees. “It’s one way for your voice to be heard,” he said, “When you go to Meet the Dean it helps you realize that you can approach him; you can make a difference in your college.”
Along with getting to know your dean, said Steimle, students will be able to receive information on scholarships, internships, and research opportunities; food will be also be provided at the event.
"Administration really wants to know their students; the Dean wants to know how to best serve them."
The McKay School dean, Richard Young, has taught in public schools at the preschool, elementary, and secondary levels, as well as college professorship. He has also worked as a school principal and district administrator. He is the father of seven, and grandfather of twenty-three. He has spent a total of twenty-eight years in higher education, nine as the MSE dean, and is looking forward to meeting his students.
