Systematic and Engaging Early Literacy

SEEL is an acronym for Systematic Engaging Early Literacy instruction. SEEL is different from other early literacy approaches because it is not a program. SEEL is based on five research-based principles that have been proven to be effective with young emergent readers.

Therefore, teachers are encouraged to learn and incorporate the SEEL principles into their own teaching styles and unique classroom circumstances.

What Is SEEL?

Systematic Literacy skills are explicitly taught engagingly and systematically.
Engaging Playfulness and meaningfulness are delivered through theme or interest based activities.
Early Success in first literacy learning experiences establishes the child’s confidence from the earliest moments.
Literacy SEEL enables children to become literate in the authentic contexts of the early childhood classroom.
