SEEL Teaching Resources

Finding Available Resources

Access resources here to support planning and implementing SEEL instruction.

  1. SEEL Curriculum: What SEEL developers recommend  be taught in kindergarten and when are specified in the SEEL Curriculum.
  2. Teaching Resources Database: This easily searchable database of SEEL support resources includes complete mini-units, additional activities, graphics, and activities for use by parents at home.
  3. Planning Calendar: The calendar guides planning of SEEL activities within the day and across the week.

Using The SEEL Curriculum

Even though the skills are taught in a dynamic tricky mix of methodology, context, and content, the curriculum documents show the content and skills arrayed across time frames with individual skill descriptions. The time frame is designated across the top of the curriculum table and skills down the left column. Thus users can easily find the particular aspect of the curriuclum they need. Click here to see the SEEL Curriculum.

Accessing the Teaching Resources Database

Teaching Resources stored in the Web site database may be downloaded and used by teachers at any time. The following resources are included:

  1. Graphics. Sheets with letters printed on them and line drawings of items that associate with the letter sounds, etc. are available under the Graphics tab in the database.
  2. Mini-units.  Mini-units contain SEEL activities for particular literacy targets. A mini-unit will include the instructional goals, the target skill and vocabulary, playful practice activities, and extension and writing activities, along with applicable graphics.
  3. Mini-books. A mini-book is a brief story containing the target skill, created for children to read to get practice in reading with the skill.
  4. Additional activities. Additional activities can be downloaded for instruction, but they do not contain all of the elements of the activity that are found in the mini- units.
  5. SEEL at home. SEEL at home activities are meant for use by parents in providing encouragement and additional practice.

Using the Planning Calendar

The SEEL Planning Calendar is a tool for organizing SEEL activities by day and week. This calendar provides a visual medium for selecting classroom contexts and connecting them to teaching resources, guiding the teacher to use all of the teaching opportunities afforded during the school day. A page describing how to use the SEEL Planning Calendar is provided under the SEEL Resources menu.
