Story comprehension is an awareness and understanding of stories.

Story comprehension in SEEL has the following objectives:

  • Focus children’s minds into attending stories.

  • Engage children in stories allowing children to comment and question.

  • Enabling children to answer questions about the story or stories.

These objectives can be obtained through many methods. Some ways of achieving these objectives through SEEL are:

  • Connecting stories to activities and experiences.

  • Building a story around a classroom experience or activity.

  • Enacting stories allowing each student to portray a part of the story.

  • Follow-up activities tied to stories that have been read as a group.
