Where Do I Begin?

Where Do I Begin?

"The theory is that the earlier you can get children reading and proficient with literacy, the better off they're going to do down the road throughout their academic career. The foundation of all success is their ability to be a proficient reader and writer."

David Doty, Utah Assistant State Commissioner of Higher Education, Daily Herald 11/13/2007

Systematic Engaging Early Literacy (SEEL) is a literacy program designed to give young children strong reading skills. SEEL works by being both educational and fun for children.

Getting started with SEEL is simple. There is not a specific place where you have to begin. You could start getting involved through many different ways such as:

  • Ask your child's teacher if they have heard of SEEL and use it in the classroom
  • Ask your child’s teacher if you can help with SEEL in the classroom
  • Ask your child’s teacher for SEEL activities you can do with your child at home
  • Look through SEEL’s list of activities and select activities to use with your child
  • Volunteer to help other children learn to read using SEEL activities in your local elementary school
  • Become familiar with the SEEL program in the teacher’s section
  • Look through the SEEL results  and research

However you choose to become involved with SEEL it will benefit your child in developing strong reading skills.
