State the Objective
Tell the children that they will help locate lost luggage as they listen for words that begin with the /l/ sound, such as long, lane, and letter. 

Literacy Activities
Act out Lost Luggage target text 

• Cut out the picture cards (see below) and luggage picture (see below).
• Create a long lane on the floor with two parallel strips of tape.
• Have the children sit by the lane. 
• Read the Lost Luggage target text (see below) and have the children act it out, dropping the luggage pictures on the lane when prompted.
• Ask the children what words they heard in the story that start with the /L/ sound.

Locate lost luggage  

• Spread the picture cards out along the long lane.
• Have children take turns walking along the long lane to find one of the lost items.
• Help the children name the picture cards they found and have everyone repeat the name, emphasizing the /L/ sound.

Identify the target letter  

• Have children help you make a list of words that begin with the /L/ sound.
• Let the children point to the letter that makes the /L/ sound in each word.
