BYU Acoustics Outreach: Sounds to Astound
Acoustics is a natural opportunity to integrate arts into STEM. This hands-on workshop will cover connections between arts and physics. Properties of sound waves, including resonance, reflections, and frequency content, will be discussed in the context of musical instruments, singing, and concert halls. Ideas for simple classroom demonstrations will be provided.
Sounds to Astound
“Sounds to Astound” is an outreach program developed and operated by Brigham Young University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy and the BYU student chapter of the Acoustical Society of America. Since its inception in 2010, demonstration shows, teacher workshops, and class tours have introduced thousands to the concepts of acoustics and enabled us to share our enthusiasm for the world of sound.
