Dr. Cort Monroe, a member of the McKay School of Education’s Arizona alumni chapter, was recently hired as the assistant superintendent of student learning in the Queen Creek Unified School District in Queen Creek, Arizona. He will help schools develop annual action plans and goals, work with principals to create plans for assessing student progress, and advance other initiatives for improvement in the school district.
“It is a privilege to join the Queen Creek family,” Monroe said. “I look forward to working with our principals, teachers, families, and students on continuing to raise the quality of education offered [in the] Queen Creek Unified School District.”
Before being hired for his current position, Monroe was director of student services in the Higley Unified School District in Gilbert, Arizona. He has also served as an elementary school principal and assistant principal, and he has taught third and sixth grades.
Monroe earned a doctoral degree from Northern Arizona University in educational leadership, a master’s degree from Arizona State University in education, and a bachelor’s degree from BYU in education.
Since 2005 Monroe has been involved with the McKay School’s Arizona alumni chapter, helping McKay alumni stay connected to BYU and to each other through meetings, firesides, and opportunities for service. All chapters endeavor to retain the spirit of the Y, along with BYU principles and priorities, such as service, leadership, and lifelong learning.
