Frequently Asked Questions about the GRE

Can I send a photocopy of my GRE scores? I can't afford to have scores sent by ETS, and I can certify that my student copy is accurate. Will that fill the requirement?

No. We must receive official test scores from ETS. Photocopies and student copies of test scores are unofficial and may keep your application from being considered.

Do I have to take the GRE?

Yes. Education PhD candidates are required to take the general GRE test—not the subject-specific GRE tests.

Ecclesiastical Endorsement

All applicants, including current BYU students, are required to obtain a Continuing Student Ecclesiastical Endorsement for each new academic year. Education PhD students must have their endorsements completed, submitted, and processed by the Honor Code Office before they can register for fall semester or any semester thereafter. Priority registration for the following fall semester can begin in early April. To avoid registration delays, education PhD students should complete and submit their endorsements to the Honor Code Office by March 15.
