State and Model the Objective

Literacy Activities
Play with /g/ actions and green glasses
- Before the activity, cut out the glasses frame graphics.
- Give each child the glasses frame graphics to color green and gold (gold glitter can be added if desired), and tape them together, with support as needed.
- Have the children put on their green and gold glasses and say to their neighbors, “You look great in green and gold glasses”.
- Invite the children to do actions that start with the /g/ sound while everyone wears their green and gold glasses (emphasize the /g/ sound), such as:
- Pretend to be grandmas and grandpas.
- Pretend to growl like gorillas.
- Pretend to go fishing for goldfish.
- Pretend to gallop like goats.
- Pretend to play guitars.
- Pretend to grab gumdrops and grapes.
- Pretend to be goofy ghosts.
- While doing the actions, have the children narrate what they are doing (e.g., “We are playing guitars in our green and gold glasses.”).
More Practice
Identify the target sound
- Ask the children to tell you different actions from the activity, and point out the words starting with the hard g (/g/) sound (i.e., gallop, goats, grab, gumdrops, grapes).
- Put the /g/ words into sentences (e.g., We galloped like goats in our green and gold glasses. We grabbed gumdrops and grapes in our green and gold glasses.), emphasizing the /g/ sound, and have the children wave their green and gold glasses in the air when they hear the /g/ sound.
