  • Letter-finding page* (optional)

State the Objective
Tell the children that they will make an A apple as they recognize and name the letter A.


Literacy Activities
Add an

  • Give the children a picture of an apple (see below) and tell them they will turn the apple into an alphabet apple by writing the letter A on the apple.
  • Have the children add the letter A to the apple. 
  • Say, “I added an A to my apple!”  


Read An Ant and an A Apple

  • Read the An Ant and an A Apple target text (see below) with the children.
  • Have the children hold up their A apples when they hear the letter A.
  • Ask the children to point to each letter A they see in the text.


Find the target letters

  • Write several letters, mostly A and a or use the letter-finding page (see below).
  • Tell the children to find each letter A and a
  • Have the children say, “I found an A!” 
  • Once the children have found all of the As, have them color the As and admire the colors.
