State the Objective
Tell the children that they will collect the letter C in a cup as they recognize and name the uppercase and lowercase letters C and c.
Literacy Activities
Collect Cs in a cup
- Write and name the uppercase and lowercase letters C and c and say that C makes the /k/ sound.
- Help the children write C and c on small pieces of paper while saying the /k/ sound.
- Have the children collect all of the Cs in a cup or can.
- Each time a C enters the cup, have the children clap.
- Make comments:
- “C collection!”
- “Count the Cs in the cup!”
- “Collect all the C cards in the cup!”
- “Clap for C!”
Catch C foods in a cup
- Tell the children that only foods that start with C can be caught in the C cup.
- Let the children select a picture card (see below).
- Help the children point to the C on each card and name the food.
- Have the children catch the C food in a cup and say, “We can catch ____ in the C cup!”
Create colorful Cs
- Help the children write a large C.
- Let the children use colored pencils or crayons and let them choose from one or more of the following options:
- Draw cakes and cookies around your C.
- Create a crazy, colorful C by coloring the C.
- Write the letter C in different colors around the edge of the big C.
Find the C
- Write several letters on a piece of paper, mostly C and c.
- Ask the children to find each letter C.
- Have the children say, “I found a C!” every time they find a C.
