- Magnifying glass* (optional)
- Insect pictures*
- Inchworm pictures*

State the Objective
Tell the children that they will inspect interesting insects as they recognize and name the uppercase I and lowercase i.
Literacy Activities
Inspect interesting insects
- Write letters (mostly I and i) on the insect pictures (see below).
- Write and name the uppercase I and lowercase i.
- Have the children write I and i in the air with their fingers.
- Tell the children that they will inspect interesting insects to find the letter i.
- Have the children use a real or imaginary magnifying glass (see below) to inspect each card.
- When the children find an I or i, have them put the insect inside a jar or container.
- Inspect the interesting insects inside the jar or container.
Write I on the inchworm
- Give each child a picture of an inchworm.
- Have the children write the letters I and i on the inchworm.
- Let the children put the inchworms in the jar with the insects.
- Have the children say “Interesting I insect” each time they put an inchworm in the jar.
