• Tell the children they will guess what three, thirteen, thirty, and a thousand things look like.
• Read the target text How Many Things? (see below) with the children and ask them to find the words with th.
• Show the children groups of things (see below).
• Have the children estimate how many things are in the pictures.
• Ask the children to place a number card (three, thirteen, thirty, or thousand) by each picture to indicate the estimated number.

Write about thinking of things

• Help the children create a list of words with th (e.g., three, thump, thud, thorn, thin, thick, think, thirteen, thirty, thumbtack, thimble, thousand, thread, thumb).
• Have the children write about thinking or things from the list (e.g., “I think I see three thimbles,” “I think there are thirteen thumbs”).
