- A real tree, a tree made out of paper,* or a picture of a tree*
- Flee from the Bees target text*
- Example picture of a tree made out of paper*
- Instructions for handmade headbands with antennae* (optional if using name tags)
- Name tags (optional if using antennae)

State and Model the Objective
The children will play a game called Flee from the Bees and will read and write words spelled with ee, such as flee, see, bee, and tree.
Literacy Activities
Flee from the bees
- Take the children to a tree, use a tree made out of brown paper, or the picture of a tree (both found below).
- Assign a few children to be bees and let them wear name tags or antennae (instructions found below).
- Let the bees buzz around and “sting” (tag) other children.
- Have the children who are tagged move away from the tree.
- Let other children act as the bees.

Read target words
- Read the Flee from the Bees target text (found below) as a group.
- Underline all the ee words found in the text.
Write about the activity
- Display a word wall with words such as peek, feel, need, seek, greet, meet, flee, see, bee, three, need, tree, whee, gee, glee, and free.
- Ask the children to write about seeing and fleeing from bees (e.g., “I peek out of the tree and see a bee. “I don't want to seek, meet, or greet a bee. I feel and see the need to flee.”).
