Literacy Activities
Buy objects beginning with D

  • Attach dollar price tags to objects or picture cards that start with D.
  • Set up a store with the objects or pictures on a desk (optional).
  • Give the children pretend dollar bills to buy objects that start with the /d/ sound.

More Practice
Drop and hop

  • Create a hopscotch game by drawing a hopscotch grid on a large piece of paper or by placing smaller sheets together.
  • Invite the children to fill each square by writing a D or a d.
  • Have the children drop an object that starts with the /d/ sound (e.g., dice, dot, dinosaur) on a square.
  • Instruct the children not to hop in the square where the object lands.
  • Have the children say the /d/ sound as they hop from square to square.
