Literacy Activities
Toss the dot on a spot
- Place the game board on a table and give each child a worksheet.
- Have the children take turns tossing the "dot" (e.g., penny) to mark a spot on the game board.
- On their worksheets, have the children write the word corresponding to the picture that their dot landed on (support as needed).
- Once all the children have labeled all of the pictures on their worksheet the game is over.
More Practice
Identify, blend, and manipulate sounds
- Cut the word cards into the beginning sound and the -ot sound.
- Place the beginning letters in a pile and the -ot endings in a pile, and have the children take turns choosing a card from each pile.
- Have the children connect the two sounds and say the new word out loud.
Write about the activity using target words
- Give each child a paper and pencil and have them write words from the activity: dot, not, hot, got, pot, spot.
- Have the children write short sentences using the words from the activity (e.g., "The pot is hot." "I spot a dot.").
- After the children write their sentences, have them circle the -ot ending in each -ot word.
