Objective
Associate the ch letter combination with the /ch/ sound in words such as chain, child, and choose.

State the Objective
Tell the children that they will make a chain as they associate the ch letters with the /ch/ sound in such words as chain, children, choose, and chant.
Literacy Activities
Write ch on paper chain and make a chain
- Write ch and say that it makes the /ch/ sound.
- Have the children write ch on small strips of paper as they say /ch/.
- Comment on how the ch in makes the /ch/ sound in the word chain.
- Form the strips into a chain (see example below).
Make a chain of children
- Display the Choose a Child chant (see below) and read it to the children.
- Have two children link arms to form a chain.
- Choose other children to join the chain of children.
- Cheer for the chain of children and chant, “A chain of children!”
- Show the chant again and have the children find the ch blends in the text.
- Have the children make the /ch/ sound and cheer when they find ch in words.
