*Take a Taste at Teacher's Table
Objective
Recognize the letter T and associate the /t/ sound with the letter T in words such as taste, take, tap, table, and test.

- Small bits of one or more foods
- Time to Take a Taste target text*
- Optional: food that begins with /t/ (e.g., tomatoes, tangerines, tortillas)

State the Objective
Tell the children that they will be taste testers while they learn that the letter T makes the /t/ sound in words like taste, take, table, test, and teacher.
Literacy Activities
Try tiny, tasty treats
- Show the children the food item(s).
- Ask if the children would like to take a taste to test whether they like the food(s).
- Say, “It’s time to take a tiny taste! If you would like a taste, write the letter T.”
- Let the children write a T next to each food they would like to taste.
- Tell the children to take a tiny taste of the foods.
Tap to segment words
- Have the children tap once for each sound they hear in tug: t + u + g.
- Have them tap two hands on the table and say the whole word: tug.
- Repeat with other simple words that start with T (e.g., tin, top, tap, tell).
Read Time to Take a Taste
- Read the Time to Take a Taste target text to the children.
- Have the children tap once for every /t/ sound they hear.
- Show the children the text and have them touch all the Ts they see.
