Materials:

  • Valentine heart*
  • A Valentine for Vida target text*
  • Pipe cleaners or bendy straws (optional)

Items included below. 

State the Objective
Tell the children that they will put Vs on valentine hearts as they recognize and name the uppercase letter V and the lowercase letter v.

Literacy Activities
V Valentine

  • Write and name the uppercase and lowercase letters V and v, and model the /v/ sound. 
  • Have the children say the letter name and sound as they write the V and v in the air with their fingers. 

     

  • Let the children draw valentine hearts and write Vs on the heart.
  • Demonstrate how to bend a pipe cleaner or bendy straws into a V shape (optional) and attach it to a valentine heart.


Identify the target letter in a text

  • Read the A Valentine for Vida target text to the children.

     

  • Read the text again slowly, following along with your finger, and have the children hold up their fingers in the shape of the letter V each time they see the letter V in the text.
