Overview
The children will pick ticks off a sick dog as they recognize and produce words that rhyme with tick, such as ick, sick, pick, and quick. 

Literacy Activities
Get ticks off a sick dog

• Lay the dog graphic flat on a desk or the floor and stick (scatter) enough small pieces of tissue paper onto it for each child.
• Invite each child to pick a tick off of the dog. 
• Replace ticks and have each child flick a tick off the dog.   
• Replace ticks and have each child use a stick to get the tick off the dog. 

Quick Tick Removal

• Replace all the ticks on the dog graphic.
• Time each child to see how long it takes them to get all the ticks off in their favorite way.
• The child with the fastest time wins!

More Practice
Identify and produce rhyming words

• Read the Ick! A Tick! story (see below) with the children, and have them flick their fingers every time they hear a word that rhymes with tick. 
• Once the story is over, have the children list off words they remember that rhyme with tick as you write them on the board.
