State and Model the Objective
Tell the children that they will jump, bump, and thump on stumps as they recognize and produce words that rhyme with stump, such as dump, clump, and pump.
Literacy Activities

Have the children tape one tree stump picture (found below) to the floor and one to a chair.
Teach the children the Jump on the Stump chant (found below).
Demonstrate the actions for the chant as follows:
- Jump: jump on the stump
- Bump: bump into the stump
- Thump: thump (hit) the stump
Sing the song while doing the actions with the children.

Produce words that rhyme with stump

Remind the children of the words that rhyme with stump (e.g., jump, bump, thump).
Ask the children to think of words that rhyme with stump and give suggestions (e.g., jump, bump, thump, dump, lump, pump).
