Kendra Hall-Kenyon

Brigham Young University Academic Vice President Shane Reese appointed Kendra Hall-Kenyon as the new dean of the David O. McKay School of Education effective immediately.

Hall-Kenyon has been serving as the interim dean since July 1, 2022. She replaced Richard Osguthorpe, who now works as an associate academic vice president.

“Kendra did a phenomenal job during her time as interim dean,” Reese said. “Her focus on the University mission and recruiting, hiring and retaining faculty who embrace that mission has been exemplary and will continue as she assumes her new role as dean.”

Hall-Kenyon earned a B.S. in family science from BYU and both an M.A. and Ph.D. in human development from Columbia University.

She began teaching at BYU in 2002. During her time at the university, she has received the Nancy Peery Marriott Award for Scholarship in 2013 as well as the Young Scholar Award in 2008, which is given to faculty members who demonstrate promise and excellence in all three areas of evaluation—research, teaching and citizenship. She served as chair of the Department of Teacher Education from 2016–2022.

The McKay School houses just under 2,000 students and offers the opportunity to major in early childhood education, elementary education, special education, physical education teaching and communication disorders.
