Where are you from?
I was born in Idaho, grew up in Arkansas and Colorado, but Utah County has been my home the past 24 years.
What and where have you studied?
I have a BA in Latin American studies from BYU.
Where have you previously worked?
I'm coming here from 15 years of tech support for the Provo School District. As a BYU student, I worked for Cougar Tech!
Why did you choose to work at BYU?
Guided by Heavenly Father, a pay raise, spirituality upgrade, autonomy, and the people here are AMAZING!
What is your favorite thing about the McKay School?
Everyone is so welcoming and happy I'm here!! I love helping the educators of future educators.
Growing up, what teacher inspired you the most? How?
My third grade teacher. She was so happy and loving, and I could tell she cared.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I should say it's being a father of three, but it's finishing a 50K Spartan Ultra Beast trail race with 60 obstacles on a hot day last year.
What do you regret not starting or doing when you were younger?
Learning to budget and save money. Oh, and wishing I had been more of an athlete instead of starting when I was 33 years old.
What was the first career you dreamed of having as a kid?
Military Pilot.
Best Halloween costume you have had?
Scottish Highlander (kilt, sword, etc.).
What stat for your life would you most like to see?
How much I've increased my overall fitness compared to previous years.
What's the most exciting thing you'll do in 2022?
I went to Disneyland with the family—Star Wars was exciting! Boys Camp at Bear Lake with my son in two weeks sounds like a blast!
What are you most likely to become famous for?
Climbing every mountain.
Do you collect anything?
Race medals.
If your entire life was a movie, what would the title be?
Life of the Dude.
If you could only eat one type of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Healthy, pre-made, convenient, preferably free (sounds like mana). I kind of wish I didn't need to eat.
What is your go-to weeknight meal?
Meat and veggies that my gracious wife cooks. (We eat out for tacos on Tuesdays and pizza on Fridays.)
What weird food combinations do you really enjoy?
Morning smoothies are probably weird because I add raw eggs and super greens (spinach and kale), but they also contain protein powder, nut butter or coconut oil, banana, almond milk, and oats.
Where could we find you on most Saturday mornings?
On the top of a mountain.
Would you rather spend a night out on the town or stay home inside with a book?
Night on the town with lots of people.
Your house is on fire, you have 3 minutes to grab 3 things. What are they?
My three kids.
Who would you like to swap places with for a day?
One of my deceased ancestors. Wouldn't it be cool to see what it's like in the spirit world?
