The McKay School is offering a series of workshops during this academic year to engage in spiritually strengthening efforts for students, faculty, staff, and administrative personnel. The purposes of these workshops are to:

  • Promote McKay School faculty/staff unity by fostering an open discussion in which “all may be edified of all.”
  • Share prophetic priorities and invite personal actions to align with those priorities.
  • Generate action plans in four key areas identified by Elder Bednar.
  • Facilitate ongoing follow-up of the action plans by programs, departments, and the dean’s administrative council.

We invite you to participate with us as Tim Smith, PhD, professor in the Counseling Psychology and Special Education Department, leads these workshops on McKay School of Education “Prophetic Priorities.”

President Oaks, President Worthen, and other leaders have recently emphasized President Spencer W. Kimball’s message: “The Second Century of Brigham Young University.” With prophetic vision, President Kimball described opportunities and challenges ahead. Elder Bednar has said, “[Now] is an appropriate time [for BYU] to consider where we are and what may be coming next,” and he emphasized four questions that we will address in McKay School meetings this year:

October 27 at 11:00 a.m. in 238 MCKB: The Light and Image of the Savior

How will McKay School teaching and scholarship provide needed illumination in a darkening world?

December 1 at 11:00 a.m. in 185 MCKB: Addressing Root Causes of Problems

How will McKay School teaching and scholarship identify optimal solutions not yet promoted in our disciplines?

January 26 at 11:00 a.m. in 185 MCKB: Promoting Student Development

How will McKay School teaching and mentoring better foster student spiritual, social, and intellectual growth?

April 6 at 11:00 a.m. in 185 MCKB: Doubt Not, Fear Not

How will McKay School teaching and mentoring build deeper trust in the Savior despite professional and personal challenges?

In all sessions, we seek faculty input to generate action plans. We benefit from your insights and experiences—we need everyone’s voice and vision.

Please mark your calendars and help to promote prophetic vision!
