Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research (UCUR)

Each year students and mentors from across Utah gather to share academic, research, and creative activities with oral presentations and posters. Every year a different university hosts the conference, and MSE students and their mentors are encouraged to participate. BYU covers the expense of the conference registration and transportation (chartered bus) for all students presenting as well as for faculty mentors who attend.

McKay School of Education 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Presentation Competition

Proposal deadline: Friday, January 31, 2020, by 11:59 p.m.
Competition date: Thursday, February 20, 2020
Time: 4:00–5:30 p.m.
Place: MCKB 160/166
Application process:  Master's, Education Specialists, and Doctoral candidates may download the application found here: 3MT Competitor Application. Submit your application electronically to Lynnette Christensen at lynnette_christensen@byu.edu by the deadline. All applications will be reviewed by a committee of judges, and the top 12 applicants will be invited to present at the competition. Refreshments will be served.

MSE Awards:
First place: $500
Second place: $300
Third place: $200

BYU Competition: Individual BYU colleges hold their competitions to determine one competitor who will advance to the university-wide competition.

Mentored Research and Experiential Learning Conference

This conference is held annually to showcase research and experiential learning activities of undergraduate and graduate students mentored by McKay School faculty. Conference attendees may choose to participate in the mentored research poster contest when they register for the conference. Presentations are poster style and each student who chooses to participate in the conference is given funding to produce a high-quality color printed poster (see poster guidelines below). All students engaged in research activities are invited to participate.

Conference Registration deadline (all participants must register): Thursday, February 27, 2020, by 11:59 p.m.
Poster Contest Submission deadline: Students who wish to participate in the poster contest at the conference must submit a PDF slide of their poster to citessec@byu.edu by Monday, March 9, 2020, by 11:59 p.m. Note: You do not have to participate in the contest to present your poster in the conference.
Conference and Competition date: Tuesday, March 31, 2020
Time: 4:00–5:30 p.m.
Location: WSC Ballroom

Awards:
Awards will be given at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Faculty must be present at the awards ceremony to receive their award.
First place: $500 student and $500 faculty mentor
Second place: $300 student and $300 faculty mentor
Third place: $200 student and $200 faculty mentor
Honorable Mention: $100 student and $100 faculty mentor

Who is required to participate?

The following requirements from the McKay School are the minimum. Each department has a set of requirements as well. Please contact your department for additional information.

Required Participants: 

1. Students who receive funding for work on research projects
2. Students who receive funding as research assistants
3. Master's, Educational Specialists, and Doctoral students who are not being paid for their research but are required by their departments to participate

Funded students are invited to participate in both the 3MT and the MSE Mentored Research and Experiential Learning Conference; however, they are only required to participate in one.
