State and Model the Objective
Tell the children that they will look for a dollar in a yellow wallet and they will read and write words spelled with the double letter combination –ll : yellow, wallet, dollar, gallon, pillow, balloon.
Literacy Activities
Dollar Store
- Set up a pretend dollar store with a cash register and cardboard storefront (optional).
- Place the picture cards and Dollar Store sign in the pretend store.
- Give the children the pretend dollar bills.
- Allow the children to pretend to buy an item from the dollar store with their dollar bill.
- Help the children read the word on each picture card and point to the double letter combination –ll in the middle of the word.
- Help the children make a list of the items in the dollar store.

- Engage the children in reading the text simultaneously with you.
