The children will explore the shore and then read and write words with -ore ,such as more, shore, and store.
 
Literacy Activities
Draw and write shore 

• Show the children the picture of the shore.
• Explain that a shore is the land or beach that is close to an ocean or lake.
• Have the children draw a shore and then write the word shore on their drawing. 

Explore a shore

• Show the picture of the busy shore (found below) to the children and have them identify things on the shore.
  • Shells
  • Stores
  • Apple cores
  • Beach umbrellas
  • Beach chairs
  • Kites that soar
• Emphasize the items that have the -ore ending.

Do a chore on the shore

• Write -ore on pieces of paper and scatter them along the picture of the empty shore (found below).
• Comment on how the shore is an eyesore (messy with litter). 
• Have the children pick up the papers on the shore while using -ore words in phrases such as, “Do a chore on the shore. Clean up the shore. Restore the shore.” 

Explore the shore and find -ore words 

• Set out the seashell word cards (found below) along a pretend shore. 
• Have the children explore the shore and find seashells with -ore words.
• Let the children read the words they find along the shore.

• Have the children make a list of the words spelled with -ore.

• Let the children write words as you say them (e.g., shore, store, more, explore, core, tore, bore, wore, core.)
• Have the children write about exploring the shore and engaging in a chore to clean up the shore (e.g., “I saw a shore.” “I saw a store at the shore.”).
