  • Allow the children to perform the action indicated on the card using the play dough.

Make a letter P

  • Have the children use pink and purple play dough to form the letter P.

  • Point out that each word on the list begins with the letter P which makes the /p/ sound.
  • Invite the children to use their play dough to make objects from the list of words that begin with the /p/ sound.

More Practice
Identify the target letter

  • Make a list of the words used throughout the activity that begin with the letter P (e.g., push, poke, pull, press, pinch, punch, pound).
  • Have the children underline the letter P at the beginning of each word as they say the /p/ sound.

Identify the target sound

  • Make a word wall of words that begin with the letter P (e.g., pat, pan, pin, pig, pot, pop, pup).
  • Help the children identify the beginning and ending sounds of each word on the list by tapping their head for the beginning sound and their toes for the end sound (e.g., pat = /p/ tap head and /at/ tap toes).
  • Point out that all of the words have the /p/ sound at the beginning of the word and start with the letter P.
