Literacy Activities
Who hid the lid?

  • Have all of the children sit in a circle with the container and lid in the center.
  • Teach the children the song Who Hid the Lid? to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat and pick one child to leave the room.
  • Have one of the remaining children take the lid and hide it in their pocket.
  • When the first child rejoins the class, have him or her stand in the middle of the circle.
  • Have the class sing the first verse of the song Who Hid the Lid?
  • When the song is finished, have the child in the middle guess who is hiding the lid.
  • When the child in the middle successfully guesses which child is hiding the lid, sing the 2nd verse of the Who Hid the Lid? song together, (replacing the words who and which kid with the child’s name).

    • kid  kit; lid  lip; did  dim
