State the Objective
Tell the children that they will pretend to sneeze at A as they recognize and name the letter A.
Literacy Activities
Sneeze at the letter A
- Write and name the letter A and a.
- Tell the children to say, “Achoo!” every time they see the letter A.
- Have the children write the letter A and a on small pieces of paper, or print the letter cards (see below).
- Place the letters face down.
- Have the children pick a letter card.
- For each A, have all the children say, “Achoo! We found an A!”
Stack and play with A
- Stack the A cards.
- Let a child pretend to sneeze, “Achoo!” as he or she blows the letters around.
- Say, “As went all around!”
- Have the children stack the letters again.
- Let the children take turns sneezing at the stacks of letters.
Find the target letters
- Display the page of mixed-up letters (see below) or write several letters, mostly A and a.
- Have the children find each A.
- Have the children pretend to sneeze and say, “Achoo! I found an A!”
