Objective

Recognize and produce the /d/ sound in words that begin with the /d/ sound.

Lesson Plan

Target Words:

  • dig
  • dip
  • dive
  • drum
  • dance

     

Materials:

*Item included below.

State the Objective
Tell the children that they will dance, dig, and dive as they listen for words with the /d/ sound, such as do, dive, dip, and dance
 

Literacy Activities
Do as I am doing

  • Teach the tune "Do As I’m Doing."
  • Let the children choose an action that starts with the /d/ sound (e.g., “Do you want to drop or drink?”).
  • Model being the leader and lead everyone in doing the action while singing the alternate lyrics to the song.
  • Call on children to be the leader and choose the next /d/ sound action word. 

     

Repeat words with the target sound

  • Ask the children to help you think of things from the activity that begin with /d/ (e.g., dance, drink, and draw.)
  • Write a sentence that includes each action (e.g., I like to dig in the dirt; I can dance like a dinosaur, Let’s draw a dragon, Mom will drive to the donut store). 
  • Have the children act out the sentence as they repeat it.
