Literacy Activities
Fit the F on the fish!
- Write the uppercase letter F and lowercase letter f on a whiteboard, name the letters, and have the children write the F and f in the air with their fingers.
- Show the children the large fish graphic and display it on the board.
- Have a child draw a letter card out of the bowl.
- Have the child show the class what the letter card is, and determine as a group whether or not the letter on the card is an uppercase F or lowercase f.
- If the letter on the card is an F or f, have the children say, “Fit the F on the fish!” and attach the letter card on the fish.
- If a child misidentifies a distractor letter as the letter F, have the child compare the letter to the F or f on the whiteboard.
- If the letter card is not an F or f, have the child place it in the discard pile.
More Practice
Identify the target letter
- Give each child a small fish and fins graphic.
- Help the children cut out the fins and then fit the fins onto the fish while saying, “Fit F on my fish!”
