Overview
The children will jog, jump, and jab as they recognize and name the uppercase letter J and the lowercase letter j.

Literacy Activities
Jog with J

  • Write the uppercase letter J and lowercase letter j on a whiteboard, name the letters, and have the children write the J and j in the air with their fingers.
  • Teach the children the Jog with J chant.
  • Have the children form a circle, then invite them a few at a time to stand in the center. Give each child in the center a large letter card.
  • Have the children in the center “jog with J” while everyone else repeats the chant.
  • Have the children take turns being in the center and jogging, jumping and jabbing with J.

More Practice
Write and identify the target letter

  • Give the children the small letter cards and have them trace the letter J and j with a crayon or marker.
  • Have the children stand behind their chairs and jog, jump, and jab with their letter cards as directed.
  • Transition to the next activity by having the children jump with their J as they put their papers away.
