State the Objective
Tell the children that they will help clean up messy M mail as they recognize and name the uppercase letter M and the lowercase letter m.

 

Literacy Activities
M mail mess 

  • Put a letter card (see below) in each envelope.
  • Write and name the uppercase and lowercase letters M and m.
  • Explain to the children that the mail has different letters of the alphabet in it, then spread the envelopes out on a table or the floor.
  • Let the children take turns looking in an envelope.
  • If the mail has a letter M or m in it, have the child put the mail on top of the mailbox picture (see below) and say, “M mail in the M mailbox.”
  • After all of the mail has been picked up and sorted, say together, “No more M mail mess!”

Write the target letter 

  • Show the children how to write an uppercase letter M and lowercase m.
  • Have the children make more M mail by writing M and m on small pieces of paper (support as needed).
  • Tell the children to put the new mail in an envelope under the mailbox picture.
