Literacy Activities
M mail mess
- Put a letter card in enough envelopes for each child to have one.
- Write the uppercase letter M and the lowercase letter m on a whiteboard, name the letters, and have the children write the M and m in the air with their fingers.
- Explain to the children that the mail has different letters in it, then spread the envelopes out on a table or the floor.
- Have each child pick up a piece of mail.
- If the mail has a letter M or m in it, have the child put the mail on top of the mailbox graphic and say, “M mail in the M mailbox.”
- If the mail does not have a letter M or m in it, have the child put it on top of the trash can graphic and say, “Not an M.”
- If a child misidentifies a distractor letter as an M or an m, have him or her look at the M and m on the whiteboard and compare them to the letter he or she picked.
- After all of the mail has been picked up and sorted, say together, “No more M mail mess!”
