Materials:

  • Small pieces of paper or sticky notes
  • Letter cards*
  • Necktie picture*
  • Jumbo paper clips (optional)

State the Objective
Tell the children that they will wear a neat necktie as they recognize and name the letters N and n.


Literacy Activities
Neat necktie

  • Write and name the letters N and n.
  • Have the children say the letter name as they write N and n in the air with their fingers.
  • Show the children the necktie picture (see below) and tell them it is a neat necktie. Explain that neat means cool or awesome.
  • Have the children write a large letter N near the bottom of the neat necktie.
  • Mix up the letter cards (see below) and have the children take turns choosing a card.
  • If the letter is N or n, let the children glue or tape the card on the neat necktie.
  • Let the children write more Ns and ns on the necktie.


Write the target letter

  • Write the letters N and n, and have the children name the letters.
  • Have the children make their own letter cards by writing the letter N on small pieces of paper or sticky notes.
  • Let the children glue or tape their letter cards to their neat necktie.
  • Help the children wear their neat new necktie by attaching it to their clothing using jumbo paper clips (optional).
