Literacy Activities
Pretty Pretzel
- Write the uppercase letter P and the lowercase letter p on a whiteboard, name the letters, and have the children write the P and p in the air with their fingers.
- Mix up the letter cards and place the cards around the room.
- Have the children find the letter cards and help them name the letter on each card.
- If the letter is a P or a p, have the children put the letter by the pretzel graphic.
- If the letter is not a P or a p, have the children place it in a discard pile.
- If a child misidentifies a distractor letter as a P or a p, have him or her look at the P and p on the whiteboard and compare them to the letter he or she picked.
- Tell the children they will glue the letter P on the pretzel and explain to them that each time they put a P on the pretzel they will get to pick a piece of pretzel to eat.
- Allow the children to paste the letter cards and pick a piece of pretzel.
- Let the children admire their pretty pretzel with all of the Ps on it.
