State the Objective
Tell the children that they will roll up ribbons as they recognize and name the letters R and r.
Literacy Activities
Roll R ribbons
- Write and name the letters R and r.
- Have the children write R and r in the air with their fingers.
- Help the children write Rs on small pieces of paper.
- Help the children decide whether each letter is an R.
- If the letter is an R, place it by the roll of ribbon.
- Let the children tape or staple the R letter cards to the ribbon.
- Help the children roll and unroll the R ribbon.
Roll R papers
- Have the children write Rs multiple times down the middle of a piece of paper.
- Tape or staple these pages together to make one long paper.
- Allow the children to help you roll all the R pages together.
- Let the children roll and unroll the R pages as they did with the R ribbons.
Identify the target letter
- Read the Roll R Ribbons target text (see below) to the children.
- Have the children find each R in the text, supporting as needed.
- Allow the children to roll up the paper with the text on it, as they did the R ribbons.
