Materials:

  • Large letter T
  • Letter cards
  • Small pieces of paper or sticky notes

Overview
The children will tiptoe to a T as they recognize and name the uppercase letter T and the lowercase letter t.

Literacy Activities
Tiptoe to T

  • Write the uppercase letter T and the lowercase letter t on a whiteboard, name the letters, and have the children write the T and t in the air with their fingers. 
  • Make the large letter T with butcher paper and lay it on the floor in the middle of the room.
  • Mix up the small letter cards and have the children choose a card one at a time.
  • Help the children decide if the letter on the card is the uppercase letter T or lowercase letter t.
    • If the letter is a T or a t, have the children tiptoe to the large T on the floor and tap the T with the letter card.
    • If the letter is not a T or a t, place it in the discard pile.
    • If a child misidentifies a distractor letter as a T or a t, have him or her look at the T and t on the whiteboard and compare them to the letter he or she picked. 

More Practice
Write the target letter

  • Tape the large T to the wall.
  • Have the children practice writing the uppercase letter T and lowercase letter t in the air with their finger.
  • Help the children write the uppercase letter T and lowercase letter on small pieces of paper or sticky notes.
  • Have the children tape their letter cards to the large T paper on the wall.
