- Y prize pictures*
- Letter cards*
- Beanbag or soft toy
- Yellow crayon or marker

State the Objective
Tell the children they they will try to hit a Y with a beanbag as they recognize and name the uppercase letter Y and the lowercase letter y.
Literacy Activities
Yell, “Yippee for Y!”
- Write and name the uppercase and lowercase letters Y and y.
- Have the children say the letter name as they write the Y and y in the air with their fingers.
- Tape the large Y (see below) to the wall .
- Have the children stand away from the wall and let them try to hit the large Y by throwing a beanbag or a soft toy.
- Let the children yell, “Yippee for Y!” when they hit the Y with the beanbag.
- Give the children a Y prize (see below) for playing the Y game.
- Ask the children to name the letter on the prize.

Point out the letter Y in the word yellow on the crayon or marker and let the children color their prizes yellow.
Identify the target letter
- Stack the letter cards (see below) and let the children take turns drawing a card.
- Help the children decide whether each letter is a Y, y, or another letter.
- If the letter is a Y or a y, have the children say, "Yes!"

Let the children attach the Ys to the large Y.
